Bird Water Color & Verse by British Arstist James R. Lee c.1824

This early piece by James R. Lee is on paper. It features a pen & ink / watercolor of exotic birds for which he was known-plus a handwritten verse below it in ink. It is signed by the artist & dated 14th Aug. 1824. The birds are equisitly done and provide the only color on the piece. It measures 8" X 10". I have placed it in a wonderful 19th century gold gilt frame with archival mounting. The finished measurements are 18" X 20".

The paper has yellowed somewhat on the bottom & right hand sides. It does not extend into the watercolor. There are also a couple of small discoloration (brown) spots-the worst of which is 1/8" in size. The frame has some loss of gold guilt to the corner and has moderate wear. The artist is listed in Davenports and the Art Index.
