Hand Carved Figure-after Bufano
This exquisite Sculpture is of 2 figures (parent & child perhaps). It is done in a stripped-down, somewhat abstract manner that was popularized in the San Francisco Bay Area by Beniamino Bufano. I purchased it from the original owner who told me that she bought it from a Tiburon artist in the late 1960's. Unfortunatly she had forgotten their name and since the piece is unmarked I cannot attribute it. It is a substancial piece in both quality and presence standing 18" tall. I am unsure of the wood but its striations remind me of mahogany. The graceful curves of the piece are a somewhat peaceful detour from the Bay Area Figurative art that was at its height of popularity during this time.
The scupture is in good condition with some things of note; there are hairline cracks on both heads and down one side---there are a few small dings on the back of the piece-nothing detracting.
