Lovely Pastel Landscape by John LeMon

This pastel by listed California artist John LeMon (1866-1944) measures 10" X 24" (12 1/2" X 26 1/4" in its original antique gold toned frame). I've had several pieces by this artist. They are usually in a limited sepiatone palette. This colored piece shows the full range of talent LeMon had in capturing the tones and nuances of light. Though LeMon worked with oils he is known primarily as a pastelist who did coastal & landscape scenes around the San Francisco Bay Area. This piece most likely dates from the 1920's and most likely would have been sold through the City of Paris Department Store. The piece is in very good condition with some wear and chips to the frame and its gesso.
