Hiroshi Yoshida Woodblock Print
This print is titled "Country Holiday" in pencil on the bottom left margin. The piece measures 10 3/4" X 15 3/4" with the image measuring 9 3/4" X 14 3/4". The artists chop is in the bottom right corner of the image, he has hand signed it in pencil in the bottom right margin and it is dated on the back in pencil 1933. The print was matted and framed around the 1950's. There is moderate fading to the image (as seen in the photos where the matt overlapped the image). It was attached to the matt with just 2 small pieces of tape on the upper margin corners which do not effect the image. Has an appropriate bamboo frame, however, should be remounted in acid free matting and backing. Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950) is known as a Western-style painter and printmaker. Born in Kurume, he lived and worked in Tokyo. He developed an interest in printmaking in 1920 and self-printed all of his work excepting his first seven prints.
